However, for this project to go effectively, the government had to form a body that would help to guide and monitor the day-to-day activities, and this body is called FAAN.
The body now called FAAN had undergone some changes to get its new name. It was not initially called FAAN. In 1976 it was first called the Nigeria Airport Authority under Decree 45 of 1976. It was remodeled in 1995 to become the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria. The Nigeria Airport Authority was established by Decree 45 of 1976 with the statutory responsibility of overseeing the operation and maintenance of all federal airports.
2. Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT)
This is a higher institution to help train and educate personnel for the aviation industry. It was established in 1964 in Zaria, Kaduna State. This institution was established to help train Nigerians and Africans in the operation and flying of airplanes, applied engineering, communication and other related subjects. It is funded by the Civil Aviation Department in the Nigerian Ministry of Aviation.
The school was established by the Act of Parliament of 1964, and since then, it has changed its name from Nigerian Aviation Training Center to Nigerian College of Aviation Technology. However, the school did not begin operation till 1966, not without the aid from United Nations Development Programmes.
3. Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA)?
The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) is the regulatory body responsible for overseeing aviation operations in Nigeria. It became autonomous through the Civil Aviation Act of 2006, which empowered it to regulate aviation safety without political interference. The Civil Aviation Act of 2022 further established NCAA as the sole regulatory authority for civil aviation in Nigeria.
NCAA is tasked with ensuring safety and compliance across airports, airspace, meteorological services, and the economic aspects of the aviation industry. Its vision is to be one of the leading civil aviation authorities in the world, while its mission is to provide aviation safety and economic regulatory services efficiently, effectively, and in line with international standards.

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) was established by an Act of the National Assembly on May 21, 2003, and became effective on June 19, 2003, following presidential assent. It is the federal agency responsible for meteorological services in Nigeria.
NiMet’s primary function is to advise the federal government on all matters related to meteorology and to also interpret its policies in this field. The agency plays a crucial role in issuing weather and climate forecasts, ensuring the safety of air travel, ocean-going vessels, and oil rig operations.
